From "Slow Economy" to "Austronesian Cultural Capital"
Taitung is an Austronesian Culture city full of diverse ethnic groups that jointly create cultural features. We have unique language, art, religion, traditional knowledge, food, clothing and other elements, showing the characteristics of diversity, nature orientation, social harmony, rich art, religious diversity, environmental awareness and so on.
Daily life in Taitung is also like the life of the Austronesian people, which emphasizes the importance of family and community, respecting tradition and nature, valuing interpersonal relationships, being practical and balanced, and liking to share and help each other.
For a long time, Taitung has advocated the "slow economy" model that pursues the quality of life and sustainable development, while retaining the customs and rhythm of life, while connecting and communicating with the world. "Slow economy" and "Austronesian Cultural Capital" are dual tracks that support and promote each other. Taitung has the vision of building the cultural capital of Austronesian and hopes to make a greater city through culture. The Austronesian Culture makes Taitung valued in the world. Therefore, Taitung demonstrates the unique charm and possibilities in its own way.

從慢經濟到打造「南島文化之都」
臺東是一個充滿南島文化的城市，但南島文化不只是原住民文化，而是多元民族在這塊土地上共同創造的文化風貌。南島文化由獨特的語言、藝術、宗教、傳統知識、食物、服裝等元素所組成，展現了多元性、自然導向、社會和諧、藝術豐富、宗教多樣性、環保意識等特色。南島語族的生活態度也反映了他們強調家族和社區的重要性、尊重傳統和自然、重視人際關係、講求實際和平衡、喜歡與他人分享和互相幫助等價值觀。這些，不都是臺東本來就有的特色嗎?
臺東不只擁有豐富的南島文化，也有著「慢經濟」的理念。「慢經濟」是一種追求生活品質和可持續發展的經濟模式，讓臺東從內而外，走出自己的道路。臺東不想成為一個快速發展但失去特色和靈魂的城市，而是想保留自己的風土人情和生活節奏，同時與世界接軌和交流。
因此，臺東打造了「南島文化首都」的願景，希望透過文化讓城市變偉大。史前遺址、族群文化與習俗是滋養臺東文化的泉源。透過南島國際美術獎、PASIWALI原住民族音樂節、藍海生活節、藝術下鄉等海洋文化與去中心化的活動，加上各局處的串聯，將能匯聚更多藝術創作者在臺東交流、連結。南島文化讓人們在世界的地圖上看見臺東。
「慢經濟」和「南島文化首都」不是兩條平行線，而是相互支持和促進的雙軌。臺東用自己的方式，展現了一種不同於其他城市的魅力和可能性。

Ripples of the Pacific — The Beauty of Taitung Spreads Like Ripples
What does Taitung stand for in the world? Taitung is the birthplace of the Austronesian language group in the Pacific Islands in academically speaking, a city well-knowing with mountains, sea and seven original ethnic groups, and the hometown of island culture facing the Pacific Ocean. It’s full of nature, ocean exploration and adventurous spirit. Nowadays, Taitung is themed with culture and aims in Austronesian language speaking regions. Within the cultural world of Pacific island, we are looking forward to connecting and communicating with others through art and crafts.
This project includes the selection of local representative artists, co-creation of designers and craftsmen, and the outputs of international art-residency. All of the subjects are showcasing the culture of Austronesian which is based on the local craftsmanship of Taitung. We'd like to share Taitung's beauty just like ripples spreading to the world, and also invite you to interact with us.

南島漣藝 —
如漣漪般泛開的台東之美
面對世界的臺東，是什麼？是學術理論上太平洋群島中南島語族的發源地；是擁有七種原民族群的山海城市，是面對太平洋、充滿自然共好、探索海洋與冒險精神的島嶼文化之鄉。今年臺東以「文化」為題，定錨南島語系區域，期待在太平洋島嶼文化世界中，以藝術能量與世界接軌。專案包含在地代表藝術家的遴選與論述、設計師與工藝家的價值共創、國際藝術駐村的交流作品等等，皆是以臺東在地工藝精神展現南島文化中的自然思維，希望讓臺東之美「如漣漪般泛開」，藉此邀請大家以海為路，與我們創造更多連結與共好。
